Aussie Boomers big man Aaron Baynes is set to miss the rest of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a neck injury sustained in the Boomers' victory over Italy on Wednesday night in what could have big ramifications in Australia's quest for a first Olympic medal.

It's a bitter blow for the Boomers and for Baynes, who are off to a strong 2-0 start in Group B after defeating fellow contenders Nigeria and Italy.

Baynes has played a big role in both of the Boomers' wins so far, with his strong inside presence and ability to hit the three ball a massive threat and part of the way the Boomers play their basketball, which will most certainly be missed for the rest of the tournament.

Baynes has averaged nine points and six rebounds a game in his two games for the Boomers in Tokyo.

Australia will face Germany on Saturday night in hope of recording a perfect group phase run.
