Cash: Women should play five sets in final

Pat Cash says women tennis players want to play best-of-five set Grand Slam finals, but are being held back from doing so by the International Tennis Federation.

While tennis is experimenting with short-form matches, as cricket has done with Twenty20 in turn raising questions about the future of Test cricket, Cash said the best-of-five for men's Grand Slam events should not be in question.

“Grand Slam men's tennis should always remain five sets,'' Cash told The Courier-Mail.

“The women should be playing a five set final and I think they are happy to do it now.

“I believe it is the ITF (who manage the Grand Slams) who are not too sure if they want to have a five-set women's final, but (feedback on) ticket prices will show people want value for money."
